Frequently Asked Questions
What is the Non-Refunded Tour Deposit
We require a non-refundable $800.00 per person deposit fee. This fee is required to reserve your seat on your storm chasing tour and is due when you request your seat/tour. This is NON-REFUNDABLE. We do not “hold seats” on promise to pay. All Media and production or custom tours require a $1,000.00 deposit. BOOK TOUR!
Is Lodging Included and what Hotels Will We Stay At?
Because our tour prices are the lowest and most affordable in the storm chasing tour industry, lodging is NOT included during our tornado tours. Daily meals, daily incidental expenses, and plane fare to and from the base city are also your responsibility.
Over the last 34 years running the storm chasing tours, we have compiled a list of many great and comfortable Hotels we stay at throughout tornado alley. These include, Holiday Inn and Suites, Comfort Inn and Suites, Baymont Inn, Clarion Inn and Suites, Sleep Inn and Suites, and many others. However, in order to stay close to the next day’s potential severe weather, we may be required to stay at a “Mom and Pop” type hotel. But we never stay at dirty or otherwise low-rated Hotels.
Do we carry insurance?
Yes. Before we even began storm chasing tour operations in 1999, we obtained a commercial insurance policy to complement our commitment to storm chasing tour safety!
When Do You Arrive? When is the First Chase?
All tours will meet/depart from either Tulsa, Oklahoma, or Springfield, Missouri, as described in the tour descriptions. Each tornado chasing tour is bracketed by the so-called Arrival day”, First Chase day, and Last Chase day. These dates are established for the purpose of allowing our storm tour guests sufficient time to travel to and from the base city. For each of the dates/days listed within the TOUR SCHEDUAL page, you must arrange to travel to the base city on your specific storm chasing tour arrival day. The Arrival day is always on Saturday. We usually do our Meet and Greet dinner on that Saturday evening. The First Chase Day starts the next morning on Sunday.
How Much Driving is Involved?
How much driving we do solely depends on the weather for that day. When we leave the hotel, we could be traveling at great lengths sometimes to get you onto the best storms with the best tornado potential. Other times, we might be able to stay close to the area with the best severe and weather potential, requiring much less driving. However, you’ve paid good money for your tour and our goal is to always try to get you onto the best storms and tornadoes. We will go as far as we need in order to do that.
How Experienced is Our Team?
The Extreme Chase Tours team is comprised of degreed meteorologists, real severe storm experts, and storm chasers. Our storm chasing tour guides have over 120 years combined experience and over 700 tornadoes documented in the last 34 years.
Will We Learn About Storm Chasing, Forecasting, and Photography?
We were the first storm chasing tour company to solely focus on a personal educational experience and spending true one on one time with each of our tour guests. From answering questions describing where we plan to storm chase for the day and why, to explaining what Mother Nature is doing during your storm tour. We really get down to the nuts and bolts of weather and science and explain things with an easy-to-understand method. We offer more hands-on training than any other storm chasing tour company! Many of our tornado chasing tour guides are highly accomplished photographers and videographers, with some having their photography and videography work seen on national and world-wide media outlets. And we absolutely love to help each of our tour guests capture that perfect exciting shot!
How Likely am I to See a Tornado on Tour?
With over 120 years’ experience, over 700 documented tornadoes, a 90% tornado success rate, and a 100% severe warned supercell success rate, we have the ability to really dig down to the microscale level and forecast to identify and intercept the most significant weather of the day. However, it is important to note that Mother Nature is always changing and is unpredictable. While we can’t guarantee a tornado, we can and do guarantee that we will do our best to get you in the best area for potential severe weather and tornadoes. Some of our storm chasing vacations have witnessed multiple tornadoes, including 15 tornadoes in one day alone! Due to our solid intercept record, we are able to achieve a 90% tornado success rate on our tornado chasing tours because of our deep knowledge of weather and our forecasting skills. We have developed and honed these forecasting skills over the last 34 years of storm chasing and forecasting the weather each and every day!
